Merit Award System
Merit Assemblies
These are held once a semester to reward students who are achieving their personal best. In the junior school if a student achieves nomination in four or more subjects as recorded on their report, they will achieve a Silver Merit Award. If a student achieves nomination in all subjects they earn a Gold Merit Award.
In the senior school, if a student achieves a nomination in any 6 units as recorded on their report, they will achieve a Silver Merit Award. If a student achieves nomination in any 10 units on their report, they will achieve a Gold Merit Award.
PRACTICES THAT RECOGNISE AND REINFORCE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
The AWARD SYSTEM is designed to recognise and to encourage students who make a positive effort and Contribution to a class, sport or school activity, or perform a school or community service.
Such commendable behaviour and achievement needs to be taught and supported.
Student achievement is recognised by:
- praise and support from teachers
- positive recognition at morning assemblies and at end-of-semester merit assemblies
- letters of commendation
- mention in school newsletter
- public displays and performances
- mention in local media (e.g. Manly Daily)
- zone, area and state awards
- certificates from state and national competitions
- student progress reports
- parent/teacher interview nights
- School Honour Board
- Sports Awards night
- Blues Award Scheme
- Speech Day
Mackellar Certificates
Points will be awarded at the teacher’s discretion to students who display any of the following. These are indicative only:

At the end of semester one, the Mackellar Certificate Co-ordinator will tally these points and when 50 Mackellar points are reached, a Letter of Commendation will be posted home.
Any student who reaches 200 points will receive a Principal’s Award at a Formal Assembly.
Mackellar Certificate x 2 = Principal's Award x 2 = Principal's Medal
Highest 10% of total points in each year receives = Blue’s Banner
Blue's Banner X 3, 4 or 5 = Blues Medallion
Blue's Banner X 6 = Blue’s Plaque
NOTE: Point scores reset to “O” at the end of each Stage.
