Peer Support
Peer Support is Mackellar Girls’ Campus longest running Welfare and Leadership program.
Each year 80 carefully selected Year 10 students begin an intensive two day training session to prepare them for their Peer Support responsibilities in Year 11.
Training as a Peer Support Leader involves
- Working in a team
- Identifying personal strengths
- Supporting others
- Developing individual leadership skills
- Motivating and supporting students beginning their high school life
- Encouraging, guiding and caring for younger students
Students who accept the role of Peer Support Leaders understand that they are important role models for younger students and it is a responsibility that they accept with enthusiasm.
PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM
Year 10 students are involved in a Leadership and Training Course in Term 4.
The Peer Support program provides a structure for Year 11 students to assist small groups of Year 7 students to meet the demands of high school.
The Program utilises the potential of senior students to befriend, support and advise younger students. It gives new students the chance to develop a greater sense of belonging.
When choosing Peer Support Leaders, a number of considerations are taken into account:
- regular attendance and punctuality
- willingness to participate in training
- adaptability;
- ability to assume a leadership role in various activities.
A certificate for completing the Training Course is awarded at the conclusion of the program. Students wishing to be selected as a Peer Support Leader are asked to sign a Statement of Commitment to the Program.
