Dance

Mackellar Girls Campus provides the opportunity to all girls to perform in the field of Dance. The staff in the Creative Arts faculty assist with all Dance at Mackellar.

In Year 7 and Year 8, Dance is provided in the 'Talented Dance Program' for students who are selected through an audition process.

Talented Dance Program

In Year 8, Dance is a compulsory subject and is integrated into the curriculum with 1 period per week for all students, enabling them to experience the joys of Dance and learn about aspects of the art form.

In Years 9 & 10, Dance is an elective subject for the School Certificate.

Preliminary and HSC Dance is offered also offered as a Cross-Campus subject.

All girls in the school can audition for the Dance Ensembles at Mackellar.  These ensemble groups perform at different eisteddfods throughout the year including the Northern Beaches Dance Eisteddfod, Extreme Dance Eisteddfod and City of Sydney Dance Eisteddfod. In the past students have consistently been selected to perform at both the Sydney North Schools Dance Festival at Glen St Theatre and the State Dance Festival at the Seymour Centre.

Students are also involved in the Schools Spectacular, with 16 students leading a segment in the 2007 Spectacular as well as performing main roles. Mackellar students have also been selected as part of the State Dance ensembles which offer numerous additional performance opportunities.

Each year there is a 'Danceworks' night held in the school performance space where the girls show their talents. The public are welcome to purchase tickets at the door.

Any student also has the opportunity to attend the Sydney North Dance Camp which is held annually at the Sydney Dance Company. Here students are tutored by leaders in the Dance field in styles such as Contempory, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop and African Dance.
