Mathematics

Years 7 - 8

 

More practical approach performing more investigations.

In year 8 the students do a ‘PIPette’ (Personal Interest Project) which is an interest investigation requiring discussion of the maths supporting this interest.

 

Years 9 - 10

More complex investigations.
Maths splits into 3 levels : 5.3, 5.2, 5.1, allowing the students to work at their own level.


Year 10 students work towards the School Certificate where they sit for a paper (for all levels) and get confirmation of grades on their particular level.

Years 11 - 12

Students can choose between the following subjects:

  • Maths Extension 2 (1 Unit)
  • Maths Extension 1 (1 Unit)
  • Mathematics (2 Units)
  • General Mathematics (this has a practical component) (2 Units)


NOTE:
Maths Extension 1 is only available to students already doing Mathematics (2 Unit) course.
Maths Extension 2 is only available to students already doing Mathematics (2 Unit) AND Mathematics Extension 1 courses.

Numeracy Centre

The mathematics staff have established a numeracy centre which operates every lunchtime. This centre is available for girls who miss lessons due to extra-curricular activities, or who require extra assistance in mathematics.
